The popularity of the Bauer S17 Vapor X700 ice hockey skate is based not only on a wide array of top-end technologies and features, but also on an affordable, middle price point. The entire package is designed to get these skates off the shelf and into the hands of savvy performance- to elite-level players who are looking for a great value. Bauer’s X700 skate is aimed at a broad segment of the market and is built to please.

  • Fiber Composite+ quarter package for reinforced high-end performance
  • X-rib design for quicker acceleration and increased stride stability
  • Hydra-Max liner for abrasion-resistant, dry comfort
  • AnaForm ankle padding for secure interior comfort
  • Form-Fit+ Grip footbed for locked-in security
  • Pro TPU outsole for increased energy transfer
  • Tuuk LightSpeed Edge holder for trigger-quick blade replacement

The Vapor X700 features the Tuuk LightSpeed Edge holder, the most popular holder in the NHL since first hitting the market a couple of years ago. Its popularity comes thanks to Tuuk’s innovative trigger system, allowing players to change their blades in mere seconds for more time on the ice and less time spent on the bench working on a skate. The X700 includes Tuuk’s LS1 steel blade, a first for the X700. The holder is connected to the Pro TPU outsole which is a stiffer, more rigid upgrade than the outsole used in other Vapor skates, giving skaters more power in each stride and more overall stability.

The quarter package in the X700 benefits from another big Bauer upgrade, with its Fiber Composite+ material and Pro-integrated heel and ankle core. All the quarter package technology in this boot combines to provide excellent stiffness and support, which results in more powerful striding because energy isn’t lost when transferred through the boot. The thermoformable boot is also lighter than last year’s X700 by 25 grams. The boot features Vapor’s X-rib design, adding increased support and stability to the rear of the boot, along with a little more stiffness.

The tongue has been upgraded over the X600 and is a 48-ounce, three-piece white felt tongue with center stitching. The three-piece design allows for an improved anatomical fit around the foot. The tongue is now thicker, with a pro-level feel, and includes high-density center foams designed to absorb impacts and to help reduce lace bite, a typical problem with low-volume skates like the Vapor.

The X700 liner is new this year. Bauer’s Hydra-Max liner is a premium, abrasion-resistant material that wicks moisture and sweat from the feet for a dry, comfortable fit. The liner also has a grippy texture that helps hold the skater’s foot securely in place. The footbed on the X700 is Bauer’s Form-Fit+ Grip, and the heel cup now has more grippy texture to help the foot stay in place. The AnaForm ankle padding gives players a snug, comfortable feel inside the boot, and a custom fit after baking.

The Vapor X700, like all Vapor skates, is a low-volume skate. If you have a narrow forefoot or a shallow heel, the Vapor line will likely fit your foot better than other Bauer offerings. The X700 fills the gap between Bauer’s top-end skates at much higher price points, and more affordable skates without this wide array of pro-grade features. The X700 does both, and leads the way among the many mid-range, performance- to elite-level skates on the market today.
